Responsibility is drilled into us from before the first day of school, everyday, throughout post-secondary, and onward. If I had a dime for every time I heard something along the lines of
Do your best, don’t forget, meet the deadline, work hard, show up on time (which apparently means ten minutes early).
Practicing this supposedly leads to reward. Reward being good grades, university acceptance, a higher paying job, proud parents, homeownership, family, and essentially success. (Repeat for generations.)
Identify your goal and motivation
Success can be defined differently by individuals at separate times in various contexts. Ask yourself — What does success mean to me? If I was successful, what would that look like? Then ask yourself how you want to get there. What are your values? What motivates you?
You have to spend time in order to make money. As a child, I understood that adults generally work during weekdays, decompress in the evenings, enjoy the first half of the weekend, prepare to return to work, then repeat. The way I see it — if working…
