Friendships are the most common profound relationships on the planet. On average, people make about 400 friends in a lifetime, but stay connected with only a handful. These valuable relationships are often stronger than bloodlines. We all crave acceptance and belonging to a sense of community. Friendships play a special role in contributing to happiness.

Being rejected, ghosted, or dumped by a previously potential partner obviously hurts. There are billions of songs and movies about that. Heartbreak can also be felt through losing a friendship.
